My method could be called old master-ish.
I use classical methods of underpainting, glazing, and highlighting, which require many layers to create deep and vibrant colors. These days I paint on titanium-primed linen rather than toxic, lead-primed canvas. I use walnut oil or linseed oil along with organic lavender rather than turpentine, which can be hazardous and darken a painting with time. I have a sweeping spectrum of paints: many handmade by artisans nonpareil, using old-world recipes from the masters and pigments imported from around the world; some custom made with rare pigments such as genuine lapis lazuli; some are self-made from pigment powders such as imperial purple, finely crushed pearls, or from the earth itself… whatever the muses demand.
I wash and care for my brushes with organic vegetable oils and brush-soap so you can be sure no artist was harmed in the making of these paintings. The methods I use are intended to preserve the life of the colors, make them ravishing to look at, and give the paintings a very long, unfettered lifespan… I’m afraid much longer than you or I.
